THE 24 and 1/2 HOUR PLAY FESTIVAL -- HOW IT WORKS:
Participants: Any and all students who have an interest in writing, directing, acting, or being a crew member (just for one day). Everyone is welcome whether you are a long time Drama student or just curious about what the theatre is like! There is no audition and no past experience in the theatre is necessary. It takes a lot of people to make productions happen! Here’s your chance to find out exactly what goes on behind the scenes. If you have any interest, don’t hesitate to sign up!
What is it? It’s a group of all student run productions put together in 24 hours! Student writers gather the night before and write new plays in just 12 hours! The next morning, directors, actors and crew—all students—arrive, receive the plays (written especially for the a set group of actors), and rehearse and tech the plays on Saturday. That evening, the plays are performed for the public in the NMU. How does it work? DURING THE WEEK PRIOR: Those who wish to act bring in a costume piece and a prop they want to use in their acting. They also state one thing they would really like to do on-stage (sword fight, sing a song, be a zombie, vampire, etc.) ON FRIDAY: The playwright teams look these over and select the actors from their applications, and they must write those things into their scripts. ON SATURDAY: The directors look over the scripts and choose the scripts they will do. TIMELINE: FRIDAY EVENING: Playwrights meet, choose actors, then in teams disperse to their homes- write through the night. Interested parents host one or two writing groups.
