Murder Me Once and The Real Inspector Hound
CASA GRANDE PRESENTS DOUBLE BILL OF COMEDY MYSTERY PLAYS Casa Grande High School students will present two hilarious parodies of Murder Mystery genres: The Real Inspector Hound, by Tom Stoppard and Murder Me Once,by John Rustan and Frank Semerano. The plays will perform Friday and Saturday evenings February 28, 29, March 7, 8 at 7:00 pm, as well as a Sunday matinee March 9 at 1:00 pm.
The Real Inspector Hound spoofs Agatha Christie drawing room whodunnits – the famous “Nobody will leave the room – everybody’s a suspect” plays. A twist is that we are watching a show within a show and hearing the personal lives and critical opinions of two critics watching the overwrought action on stage. As the play proceeds, the critics lives begin to intertwine with the action on stage. The action takes place at the remote and foggy Muldoon Manor with colorful characters that include Mrs. Drudge (the housekeeper), Simon Gascoyne (a mysterious stranger), Lady Cynthia Muldoon (lady of the house), Felicity Cunningham (her young friend and rival for the affections of Simon), Magnus (the crippled half-brother of her Ladyship), the intrepid Inspector Hound, and the critics Moon and Birdboot. The play has had many professional productions, appearing first in London in 1968. Sir Ian McKellen toured the play as Inspector Hound in 1986.
Murder Me Once, concerns the sudden suspicious death of racketeer, Coins Fontaine. Is it murder or suicide? It’s obviously a job for hard-boiled detective, Spuds Idaho, who encounters three conniving femmes fatale, an imposing housekeeper, a thug, a Scottish Lieutenant named Brogue and his Irish assistant, Officer Proverbs. As you may guess, nearly everyone had a motive to kill Coins Fontaine. Spuds has his baggage: a gambling problem (“My horse didn’t leave the gate until the judge served an eviction notice”), and a disdain for conventional domesticity (“I can’t afford a wife. I can barely support my bartender”). Cast members include: Charlotte Gregson, Logan Null, Matthew Bortel, Ariana Mendez, Holly Van Renselaar, Lily Gutierrez, Brooke O’Flaherty, Erik Mander, Haylie Silva, Benjamin Brown, Kaya Thunen, Sadie Wray, Liberty Wiseman, Ariana Selna, Ruby Akers, and Jared Humphreys. Hadia Osmani and William Brown are the Stage Manager and Lighting Technician, respectively.
Tickets are at the door: $10.00 General Admission, $5.00 students, faculty, seniors, and children under 12.
